Before the national resistance war, Pham Van Don was the head of the Hoa Lan drama department and had the ambition to create Cao Ngu’s Lei Vu, a famous Chinese play. A Chinese director was sent to help the Orchid troupe make this play, with a translation by Dang Thai Mai. There was only one performance that lasted for four or five hours at the Hanoi Opera House in the first week of December when the war broke out. So Pham Van Don carried both the director and the actor to the resistance area and the troupe was immediately recruited by the Youth Department – led by Dao Duy Ky. But from Hoa Lan Drama Troupe to Liberation Arts and Culture Troupe, this theater organization needs to have other branches such as painting and music.
