We went to a restaurant that didn’t look like a restaurant at all. An uninformed passerby might think it was a cheap insurance agent, with its shutters rolling and some dusty bowling trophies displayed in the windows. But, inside, it was packed with people. Elvis Presley’s vocals[45] weaved through laughter and the clack of silver cutlery. At a table near the door, a woman in a fur dress was saying something about gorillas, in an English accent. Elvis Presley (1935-1977): American singer and actor, known as the king of rock and roll. I’m wearing Calvin Klein jeans and a sports t-shirt. It’s my favorite outfit. We sat at a table in the corner, which was so close to the other three that we had to squeeze through to get into our seats. The walls were covered with souvenir plates and old photographs, along with stuffed deer heads, wall clocks and faded records of Dusty Springfield and the Kingston Trio. A sign hung near my head that read: “Never mind this sign.”
