It may seem like there are endless pieces of advice but the truth is, the same idea is often expressed in different ways and through different lenses. I’ve identified three distinct categories into which most life advice/wisdom might be sorted. Cat that’s what I do I read books I drink coffee and I know things poster. The first of these three categories is: “Pay attention.” I wrote a blog post explaining this category a bit more. After you read the blog post, come back here and let me know what you think. Am I onto something? Or have I gone off the deep end? Where else do you see the principle “pay attention” show up? This quote inspired researcher & author neilpasricha to start a podcast called “3 Books,” where he is on a quest to uncover the 1000 most formative books in the world, 3 books at a time.

In case you missed it, you can catch Neil’s episode of my podcast where he talks about how (and why) to read more books. Audio & show notes on the blog. P.S. In case you’re wondering, yes that is my bookcase in the photo and yes, I did make it out of an old coffee table. Cat that’s what I do I read books I drink coffee and I know things poster. A reader lives plenty lives, ok. I can agree with this but I totally disagree with the second part : I don’t read but I have lived more lives for real than some people who read lives in book stuck home. I don’t think then that making such generality and judgement (which is so wrong that it is not funny) is very relevant to people’s well being or mind.
