I had to cut that negativity out of my life, but back to my brother: he has cerebral palsy and dwarfism as well. As a kid I would cry when I’d heard what kids would say to him and id always get into a fight defending him. Cat You and me we got this poster. He is the sweetest being I’ve met and always wants to hug. My biggest wish is to get him to live with me and give him a better quality of life. I have a brother with DS and I agree with the poster that being in a family with special person makes your heart open to all people. This really brought a tear to my eye, the words could have been written by me. Thank you HONY for sharing this important point of view.

Oh my heart. My Great-Aunt Helen was injured during her birth in the 1920s. Forceps crushes her temples, she was mentally impaired but she loved us fiercely! Cat You and me we got this poster. My great-grandparents moved her into a group home long before I was born, she had matured physically and her brain did not know what to do with that so it was the best for her to provide her with a group of people who knew how to care for her. Luckily my great grandparents were able to afford a private group home and Helen was well cared for. I adored going with my Grandmother to take Aunt Helen on adventures. She was SO HAPPY all the time, I miss her sweet face and bright smile.
