My grandfather died in 1974 and the contents of his house were disposed of by his wife’s son from a previous marriage. A man that my parents knew but hadn’t seen since the 1980s saw a hat in a vintage shop in 2019. My grandfather had written his name and address on the inside approximately 50 years or more before this. Haunted mansion stretching room nightmare before christmas poster. Our name is unusual and the man wondered if the hat was my father’s. He bought it for us to have! Having that hat means a lot to my family. So precious! I have the sweetest memories of listening to my Grandfather talk about his service as a Navy medic at Guadalcanal in WW2 and living through the Great Depression. I truly believe they were the Greatest Generation.

I only regret not recording him and Grandma as they spoke reverently and cried about it – I would give anything to hear their voices now! Beautiful story about good people. Some people have no sentimental value for objects, but it is amazing the way they dispose of artifacts like these. Haunted mansion stretching room nightmare before christmas poster. I once caught an aunt disposing of several 1880 era hand stitched quilts made by her ancestors in the trash. They weren’t my relatives so she was mystified why I would want to save them. Your story resonated so much with me. The love, the pain, the gratitude. Thank you for sharing. My grandfather was a pivotal person in my life, too. I would not be who I am today had it not been for his love, kindness, and generosity.
