Reform is needed badly. I have lost trust in our health care system. I live in a border city to Mexico and go over for medical and dental care. We shouldn’t have a system that doesn’t care for it’s citizens. I’m a physical therapist. Tell me about it. The exact same treatment procedure billed to the insurance companies will be reimbursed at different rates, with hospitals 2x the amount vs private practices.. It’s dispicable! But think how our Canadian health care system is being eroded so it looks more privatized and Americanized. When profit and health go hand in hand that is when a moral compass is discarded.. That shouldn’t be a “what if” question. It should “why aren’t”.. a National Health Service would solve this problem, you know, like Britain has( unfortunately our government thinks it should be broken up and sold off ( mostly to American companies). Even if you have to wait a little longer for surgery, like we sometimes do in Canada, I still don’t understand why the richest nation on earth (USA) doesn’t have universal health care? I am gobsmacked by US medical insurance/bills, I’m an immigrant to the country so my experience of healthcare in my own country is all I knew, I realize now how lucky we were for the wonderful health care system we had.. Imagine if you go to a restaurant and the prices are not. Imagine if there was food insurance as well heck maybe it is time to do that. Or learners insurance for each child so that maybe the education system can be as “great” as the medical system. It won’t happen. When you’re doing bad things, the cover of darkness is desirable. This doesn’t surprise me in the least. It’s also a major culture shock for this American girl coming to the UK and seeing how easily most of the Healthcare needs are taking care of.. The big difference in the US vs. rest of the world is not only the cost of medicine, but fragmented system and huge liability fees / insurances, which make the whole system much more expensive.
