My son has selective mutism, it took a village to assist him at school but eventually he was able to speak to his teacher outside of the classroom. We had all the faculty stop asking him to speak as this request caused him so much anxiety. He is now happy and adjusting to school. Although he had friends before he began speaking, he can now be himself and is happier for it. I dont usually cry at these but man this brought tears. A true mother, always there for her child. Ensuring equality, fairness and support. As the mother of a 7th grader with severe social anxiety and OCD, your story both breaks and warms my heart. Knowing that you struggled is heartbreaking but knowing that your mom was there every step of the way to fight for and support you AND seeing how far you’ve come is the best thing a mama could hope for. Kemi Adeniyi Kale Motocross I don’t ride my bike to win race poster Well done Mama. We definitely speak loud for our children. I remember the days we went to sports day. So I could run with my son to make sure he ran in the right direction. Making sure he went to Mainstream and waited till speech came in when he was 6. Our diagnosis was Autism. We fight every day. Thank you for the hope. We have to have hope. I grew up with a friend like this! Samantha would not talk, so her friends did it for her.. My daughter also developed selective mutism from the age of 3to 9 , no one could figure it out ,I researched everything I could until I saw the words “selective mutism ” that was it ! Therapy didnt work , took time and lots of love from family and friends , now at 18 she’s in college and barely even remembers any of it power of love is strong !

This story made me cry not out of sadness but out of recognizing the struggle and how important it is to have someone who believes, accepts and see you for who you are. You both needed each other and helped each other to heal and to not give up on. Thank you for sharing Mickey and Michael’s story with all of us. I hope you’ve since continued to have people in your life like Mickey who accept you, love you, support you, who are your family. Thank you! We should all be there for each other like these two were. What an incredible story of unconditional love. What an honor. I hope someone honors me in my life and death the way you honored Mickey. Such a beautiful series enveloped in love, respect, care, adoration, and acceptance. Thank you for sharing Mickey and his legacy with us.. Knew it was coming, but still not ready. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story about friendship, love, passion, selflessness, and memories
