The World As It Is by Ben Rhodes. It’s true, Ben does not have African blood running through his veins. But few others so closely see the world through my eyes like he can. There’s a starman waiting in the sky poster. Ben’s one of the few who’ve been with me since that first presidential campaign. His memoir is one of the smartest reflections I’ve seen as to how we approached foreign policy, and one of the most compelling stories I’ve seen about what it’s actually like to serve the American people for eight years in the White House. When I need to calm myself, I close my eyes and envision you and Michelle dancing at your inauguration(s) and I feel the love for each other and for your country. Yes, sometimes tears but I take a deep breath because I know needs all of us to be strong.

Things Fall Apart was great but my favorite book by Chinua Achebe is, “Man of the People,” which is about a corrupt Nigerian official running for President, the rhetoric similar to Trump, it ends with a coup which happened in Nigeria shortly after the book was released. There’s a starman waiting in the sky poster. I recommend also reading Weep Not Child by Ngugi wa Thiong’o it has been years since I read it ,a short novel, but very powerful. Grew up in South Africa and in my late teens went to a lecture at the Univercity in Johannesburg . On stage was an empty chair for Robert Kennedy who was not allowed into the country then. The South African people have earned this visit from you, one of the worlds best leaders.
