And I was aware of the irony because France colonized Senegal. But that trip opened my eyes to the opportunities I’d been taking for granted. It made me appreciate the choices that I have in life. Violin Knowledge Poster. And since those choices are a privilege, I want to use them to help other people. When I was a young adult, I wanted to save the world, like you. I became a doctor because I thought I could save the world through providing medicine with MSF in remote areas of the world. I quickly learned that, while medicine is very much needed world-wide, it is an acute band-aid. I worked in an area in SE Asia where environmental degradation was causing famines for the first time in recent history, so I decided to go on and get a PhD in ecology and save the world through environmental conservation. Working in S. Africa on conservation research, I had the oppertunity to work with rural schools.

Quickly all my experience in life came into focus as a lightbulb went off for me. The way to make the largest global impact is through education. Violin Knowledge Poster. It is through education that you provide people the knowledge to conserve the environment around them, it is through education that you provide people agency to seek medical treatment and prevent many preventable illnesses, it is through education that you empower people to make changes to their government. If you want to have a global impact, work to bring free, quality education to everyone around the world. Now, my research largely focuses on brining education to the most vulnerable populations – refugees and displaced children, so that they can change the world. Because education is power!
